a nice companion book to the filmJuly 22, 2003 While this book is basically a glossy version of the film's production notes, it does have some very nice pictures from the film and some of Howard Bingham's famous photos of Ali and the film's screenplay (albeit condensed and squished in there). What is nice about the book is that they pad it out with writings from the likes of Norman Mailer and do try to put Ali's life in a historical context. In this sense, it is a nice companion piece to the film because it fills in more of the gaps on Mann's rather Expressionistic take. Good reading.
