Customer Reviews:
A book for thoughtful fight fans.November 30, 2008 Sam Sheridan's exploration of the fight world is a hidden gem. It serves as kind of a time capsule for mixed martial arts just before the current boom in popularity. Sam trains Muay Thai in Thailand, MMA from the Pat Militech camp (where Tim Sylvia and Matt Hughes were at the time), and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu with Brazillian Top Team and Rodrigo Nogueira. Sheridan provides an exciting behind-the-scenes account of Nogueira's last fight with Fedor Emelianenko in Japan's Pride Fighting Championship. Sheridan trains with boxer Andre Ward as well. He also explores our culture's fascination with fighting leading to some digression into the world of dogfighting (though in a non-judgemental way). Sheridan is an intelligent writer and the book is a must for fans of MMA or fans of the fight game in general.
Intelligent and InterestingDecember 14, 2007 This is a very well written bio of Sheridan's experiences confronting the need/desire to fight and to face ones own fears. While it may sound a bit cliche it is written by someone with a passion for both the fight game and for literature and benifits from both as its writing is clear, intelligent and will keep any fan of martial arts or even adventure turning the pages. Definitley recommeded for any fight fan, whether spectator, or fighter.
