Description
Milky Way - Often considered Harold Lloyd's best performance in a talkie, Lloyd plays Buleigh Sullivan, a milkman who becomes a boxer after it appears that he has knocked out a middleweight champion (William Gargan) in a street brawl. Adolphe Menjou plays Gabby Sloan, who wants to manage Buleigh as a real contender in a series of fixed fights only to have him lose a match against the champ right as the unaware Buleigh begins to believe in his own powers. Will Buleigh be able to hold his own or will he get clobbered when he faces a real fighter?

Kid Dynamite-East Side boxing champion Muggs McGinnis (Leo Gorcey) has been challenged to fight the West Side champ after a pool game hustle gone wrong but is kidnapped before the match. Muggs' friend Danny (Bobby Jordan) takes his place and wins the fight only to have Muggs think that Danny was responsible for his kidnapping. The relationship strained, is made even more complicated by the fast that Danny wants to marry Muggs' sister. Will Muggs' sister marry Danny? Will Muggs and Danny's friendship ever be repaired or will Muggs continue to believe that he lives in Danny's shadow and resent him forever? Find out in this knock-out classic, Kid Dynamite!

DVD features

-A very fascinating and informative introduction by New York Post film critic Lou Lumenick!

-Bonus episode of classic serial The New Adventures of Tarzan!

-Lloyd Kaufman discusses his opinions of some classic American movies about boxing and relates them to his own experience working on the original production of Rocky!

2 out of 5 stars NOT ROAN'S BEST!!!!!   July 9, 2009

I can't really recommend this disc even though Roan is one of my favorite DVD producers. The Milky Way with Harold Lloyd is a good print, but there is an excellent print available on The Harold Lloyd Collection. Kid Dynamite with the East Side Kids looks much better than other releases, but is full of splices and has an Astor Pictures re-issue title card. Roan really dropped the ball on this by even using a print with missing scenes. These scenes can be found on other releases. There was also a problem with the picture freezing during both films, so it might be better to just avoid this disc since these films are available elsewhere. The only items unique to this disc are the extra interview on boxing movies and the film critic intro. The interview is good, but this film critic is a waste. Both films themselves are great, but this disc just isn't.
