It's a great book, any one that is thinking about carrying a gun or already does should read.
Common Sense Book for everday carriers April 6, 2010 Matthew Campbell (Greenville, SC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm about half way through this book and very impressed. Not impressed by great writing by Shakespeare or Steinbeck, but common sense answers to questions that carriers face. When do I carry? What do I do if...? The stories that they use as examples are great and the following chapter going over the lesson of the story is even more valuable. This book provides answers for many of your carrying/defense questions.
Not only will it be a book to read once, but once a year as a refresher on why you carry and how you should defend yourself. Once I finish it the book will be passed on to family and eventually friends, even those who may be against carrying as a defense for my decision to carry and maybe an eye-opener to them. I highly recommend this book.
An engaging read. Level-headed and sensible. March 17, 2010 Donald J. Bindner (Kirksville, MO USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I picked this book up on an order that was near the boundary for free shipping. It had been on my Wishlist for a while since I had encountered Kathy online and seen that she always had good advice on forums. I didn't have high or low expectations really; I just bought the book to support Kathy.
I was very pleased. The book reads very quickly. I finished it the same day that I received it (although I was up a bit late getting those last chapters done).
I liked the format, which mixed stories of actual experiences with relevant ethical and legal implications. A couple of times I thought the connection between the anecdote and the legal discussion wasn't particularly tight, but I perceived that as the cost of making sure all of the important topics were discussed.
The discussion of defense situations that don't go as planned, where everybody loses (including the good guys), was incredibly moving. I can't think of any other gun book that I have read that did that as well (and I have read a few). That anecdote and the following discussion are reason enough to buy the book. The gravity of lethal force encounters is very tangible in that story.
This is the only gun book that my wife has ever read. Like me, she read it in a single day, cover to cover, and she was also impressed. I recommend the book to friends interested in concealed carry and application of lethal force.
Fantastic February 25, 2010 David Law (S. Oregon) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just finished my first reading of the book and have begun the second.
I have been reading and recommending Ms. Jackson's writings on her website , The Cornered Cat, for a while now and expected a good read, but she has truly outdone herself here. This is possibly the best book on the defensive mindset that I have seen.
I recommend this book to anyone who owns a firearm, is thinking about owning a firearm or even who wonders why a reasonable person would wish to carry a handgun.
A must read! February 11, 2010 L. C. Barberi 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is a MUST READ for EVERYONE who has a concealed weapons permit or is thinking of getting one. The lessons learned from others experiences are priceless and just may save a life...and it could be yours!
