Tough day today, but got my workout in anyway. Posting my goals and schedule to the site helped.

I'm usually pretty shy about sharing my feelings, but figured since we have this site to help keep each other accountable, I'd give it a try today. I was feeling tempted to cut my workout short (or out all together) since I was supposed to start at 3:30 and instead had given a friend a ride and got back later than expected (almost 5:00). Having posted my goals, and schedule (with extra details that Aaron suggested) to the site was a help in that I felt accountable to do the workout, which I just finished now (almost 6:30).

On another note, I am working my way through the basic lessons, and am excited about starting the official program once I get the basics down (for now I am following my own workout routine while I do the getting started lessons).

Thanks,
Sean

Sean, thanks for posting this. As a general rule (not just applying to you), just goes to show how you have to conciously make the decision that workouts are a high priority in your life.

Personally, I'm very protective of the timing I've set aside for training. There is always something easier or more desirable that will try and take that time away if you let it. Even for noble causes like giving friends a ride home - it's all fine as long as you are going to make the adjustment like you did.

To be honest though, I'd treat the time you have scheduled for working out like work itself. You wouldn't skip an hour of work to give a friend a ride somewhere because you'd get fired or it would cost you personally in terms of financial benefits. Look at working out the same way - if you put something else in that timeslot, especially something unplanned, you are robbing yourself of achieving your goals.

Don't let anything mess with your training schedule once you've committed to it - no matter how noble it seems - but at the same time, if you do give something a higher priority - make the adjustment as you did here.
